2:33 pm - 2 Antique Victorian Bodices and 2 Parasols!!
|
These treasures are all from my trip to Normandy, the guy who sold this had a little place packed with antique clothing, hats, bags, fans, umbrella's, tablecloths, laces and so on! Everything was packed on top of each other, boxes reaching the ceiling, this guy was a serieus obsessed collector, he didn't even have room for his own bed anymore. Everyhting was very afordable, especially since the guy would lower his price with 20 euros everytime your raised an eyebrow or looked pensieve... My egyptian part of me came up and I went bargaining!
( Alooooot of pictures!!! )

10:50 am - Dead Serieus!
|
I have HAD IT with the Dutch postal service TNT!!! My package to TailorDrews luckely arrived, altough the postal office forgot to give me the tracking receit, forgot to put priorty stickers on it and never insured it altough I paid for this. They were rude and angry because all big Postal offices were shut down and now 95% of all postal offices have to work from magazine stores with people that did not have any training and are in over their heads!
TNT is allowed to take up 1 week to deliver a freaking package within the Netherlands. Even if you pay for extra insurances, even if the package is for your neighbour, it really doesn't matter. This makes sending items to a client very tricky, especially if that person needs it for a certain date. You have to work harder and calculate shorter time to make those items, because you cannot trust TNT. I always send traceble and insured packages in the Netherlands and all over the world, getting packages lost is very easy for TNT and they are really not botherd.
There S&H prices get higher every year ranging from 1 euro for standard package tot 20 euros for priorty internatonl insured packages of a certain weight. The prices on their website hardly ever match the prices you have to pay in the postal office centre, which makes charging your costumer a pain too! If you have overpriced them, no problem you send the money back which they paid too much. If you have underpriced it, then your screwed , if it's 1 euro, I wont ask, if its more you hardly ever get that money.
If you have a package coming from outside the EU, you have even more trouble. The customs can charge between 20-50 euros for a package worth 22 dolars of fabric or charge nothing when you order silks worth 100 euros, it's like they trow darts on a board with charges on it and you''ll either get lucky or screwed. I need items from America and England, there the best source for cheap quality fabrics, material and such that is either not availble in the Netherlands (but very much essential for my line of work) or very overpriced. Also customs is allowed 30!!!!!! days to keep your package and they refuse to give the status of your package, how much they will charge or an estimate arrival time.
I hereby swear if we can get enough people, can we not sign a petition stating we want better services and the certainty that our packages arrive? That the postmen donot leave your package in front of your door to get soaking wet and damage your goods or wait 5 sec. before walking away, leaving you panting and runing to the door? That it is impossible to trust them if they lose your package even when insured and traced? That packages get here often damaged? I say we really need some ACTION!

10:57 am - Elizabethan ruffs!
|
I'm going to make some Elizabethan ruffs for a customer of mine and also some for a shoot. The one I'm making now is made out of cotton so I needed starch, I hard alot of complaints that starch was no longer availble as it used to be and so on.
1 minute googling and I found this: www.stijfsel.nl (all in dutch, sorry!)
I orderd a pack and will see if it works, if so, it could open up a world to alot of period correct clothing, i think the whole Janet Arnold book nr. 4 could use this ;)
