Need advice - Breakaway pants
I need to make 6 pairs of breakaway pants for a production of The Full Monty. Anyone ever make these kind of pants or modify a pair of regular pants to be breakaway?
I'm thinking that I can use regular pants, open the side seams and put in snaps or velcro dots. I'm sure I'll have to add a bit to the side seams so the pants fit after adding snaps/velcro. I'm guessing about 1 1/2 or 2 inches on each side. Maybe black grossgrain ribbon (would that be sturdy enough to last through all the performances?) added to the back of the side seam and adding snaps/velcro to that and the front side of the seam so when closed the snaps/velcro won't be detected.
Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated!

My latest corset comission=extremely shaped underbust Here is a pic of the latest custom corset I finished. It was made for a local burlesque dancer, Calla Doll, and has a very extreme shape. Finished measurements are 27 underbust, 18 waist, 36 hip. It's made of dark pink satin with lighter pink satin outer casings and has flase hip gussets (pieces cut shaped like the dome of the hips, but are not true gussets). It has two sets of loose straps (lined with the same fabric) she is going to tuck the back straps into the front of the corset to eliminate back fattage and tie the front ones around her neck halter style, weird request I know, but when she tried it on it looked just fine. She can also criss cross them and tie the fronts and back together. It's backed with thin batiste and lined with medium weight cotton trigger and of course has waist tape and bi-directional back lacing. Boned with 1/4 flat steels on all the seams. Outer Casings are decorative only, bones are actually sewn on the inside of the corset lining. Corset has a few pulls/wrinkles in the photo this is due to the following factors: A) It doesn't fit the pillow and is being pulled funny, and also it's extreme waist to hip ratio was a beeyotch to fit together nice and totally smoothly. B) Is SATIN (Satan) C)It was made for a burlesque dancer who wanted a lot of movement and a very lightweight corset so it is not heavily backed/lined and D) Did I mention It's hellish satin?? Good. :) I like how it came out overall but I still loath sewing satin. Also I would love to have an 18/36 corseted waist to hip ratio but alas I live in the land of 28/44 :) Here is the picture: ( photo here ) |

SHOOOOOOOOOOOES Hello again. This weekend in a panic for shoes for my bustle dress for Costume College (is anyone else going?) I found these. They're incredibly comfortable and they're on sale. I'm not sure it comes any better than that. I splurged and ended up getting them in all four colors. I'll wear them everyday. Tee antique grey is ALOT more grey/silver then the picture, but the others pretty much look the same. And the good news is they go from size 4.5- 14. Which means that if you're like me and don't wear an 8.5, you're super excited! I thought I would just pass on the find! Chicago "Willy Wonka" Meet A small number of us are planning to see a stage production of "Willy Wonka" at the Navy Pier on Saturday, August 2nd, at 7:00PM. Tickets are $23. Prior to the show, if there is an interest, we can enjoy the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows and other attractions at the pier in the afternoon. Who would like to see a Cupped corset tutorial part 2? (sewing)
With all the questions wandering around the various corsetry communities about sewing cupped corsets lately I am thinking it is time for me to take some free time to do the 2nd part of my cupped corset making tutorial, the one about different construction methods and sizing etc.
Is there enough interest on here that you guys would like to me to go ahead with that? It takes some time to do one (since I need to pretty much make a mock-up for the visuals) but I would be glad to share if you guys think it would be something helpful to add to this community. |

the never ending quest for the perfect pattern Hello all, I have been lurking for quite a while and have noticed that many of the questions that arise are on the topic of how to make room for breasts in a corset pattern, whether making room at the top or adding cups. I know there are several different approaches such as bringing a mid-breast corset up higher, adding gussets, making an under-bust with incorporated cups, and having a sweetheart-type neckline that has the boning go all the way to the top, but what patterns are best to start off with? I tried to meld the neckline/top portion of the simplicity 5006 pattern with the laughing moon dore. This worked to some extent but wasn’t the most flattering result. I was hoping all the talent on this board might have ideas about which patterns are the best to modify for cups, or more of a defined breast area? What I have gleaned so far: Laughing Moon Dore can be brought up over the bust Laughing Moon Silverado and simplicity 9769 have gussets TV 110 and Past Patterns are shaped with cup size in mind What do you all suggest? Cptn. Benjamin Harman Hay, July 2004-July 18th 2008
We're thinking of fitting an elevator to Rainbow Bridge: Captain Benjamin, the herewith-illustrated bunny's companion, died and was buried today with full military honours next to Wes, Willow and Mr Algernon Montcrieff III Esq.* in the garden.
This is not a tragedy. Benji was so fit, healthy and happy that it was only in the last few days that I thought, wait, is he okay? He looks a little tired... in retrospect, Internet diagnosis suggests that the noticeable symptom was a "fatty eye", which is basically harmless but perhaps also a potential indicator of heart problems, which themselves are difficult to identify in guinea pigs.
He was exactly four years old, which is a very reasonable innings for a guinea pig (official line is 4-7 years, we read). Under recent circumstances, it's strangely comforting and almost a positive feeling to have a pet die of quick, internal, virtually unavoidable causes at the correct time of life.

Back on-life  - The internet is finally working again, so hooray! (I don't know where to begin reading your entries. If there's anything important I missed, please let me know!) - We both had a second interview for a game testing position in Brighton and they went really well! - We also found this lovely two bedroom flat, so let's hope it's still available. - I bought the tightest skinny jeans ever and I love them - I'm eating lots of fruit which really does make me feel better (and thinner) - I can't wait for Fable 2 to come out, Ive never wanted to play a game more. I even dream about it, how sick is that? - I also can't wait to read Breaking Dawn- And to see Twilight, the Dark Knight, the new Harry Potter and too many more. - I miss my mother so much - This time I'm really working on getting my life back on track, no quitting yet! - Editors help me do it. |
